    Our Speaker:
    Scott Phillips left his career in information security as vice president of project management in 2021 to partner with his wife, Lisa, in publishing. Learning the industry from the ground up and applying his project management skills, he took their publishing company from a basic sole-proprietorship to forming an LLC that has grown from just publishing works written by his wife to now regularly publishing anthology collections throughout the year. Scott handles the business, operations, and finances of the business as well as consults with other authors and industry professionals through organizations like American Christian Fiction Writers. As a local Calvary Chapel pastor, Scott brings his ministry heart to the Christian fiction industry. Scott and Lisa have 2 fantastic children, and Lisa has 2 large dogs that Scott helps to walk, and sometimes, even feeds.

    Royal Coffee is located adjacent to The Fountain Square, in the eatery which houses Calle 75 and Rice Works. When we use public eating facilities, we encourage you to order food or drink to patronize the businesses.

    Members can bring several paper copies of their work in progress (WIP). For the first hour, we read aloud and handwrite critiques. No matter how new you are to writing, you have something to offer. Sometimes we have an impromptu brainstorm session. Often, we just fellowship. This smaller group is more conducive to individualized questions and story problem-solving.

    February's Speaker: Angela Ruth Strong

    Just a few days before Valentine's Day, we are going to hear from the original founder of IdaHope and romance author Angela Ruth Strong about "The Importance of Love Stories."

    Why do we read and write romance, and how can we write it better? Learn the benefits of adding a little romance to any story. We'll be reading excerpts of the genre's tropes for an interactive study of how to use them, when to break them, and how to go deeper than expected. You'll leave with the inspiration needed to surprise your reader while still leaving them satisfied.

    Angela Ruth Strong survived breast cancer, works as a flight attendant, and uses her own crazy life experiences as inspiration for the stories she writes. Her books have earned TOP PICK in Romantic Times, been nominated for a Christy Award, and have become Amazon bestsellers. She and her husband also played extras when her novel Finding Love in Big Sky was adapted for film. Watch for her upcoming flight attendant romcoms!
